Mar Andrews Thazhath, Metropolitan Archbishop of Trichur, was born on 13 December 1951, at Pudukad, Kurumali as the child of late Anthappai and Rosa. He joined St. Mary’s Minor Seminary Trichur in 14 June 1967. He was ordained priest on 14 March 1977 by Mar Joseph Kundukulam. The episcopal ordination as the auxiliary bishop of Trichur was on 01 April 2004 by Mar Jacob Thoomkuzhy at Thrissur Lourdes Cathedral and thereafter he served as the proto-syncellus till 18 March 2007. Mar Andrews was appointed as the Metropolitan Archbishop of Trichur on 18 March 2007.

He is a member of the permanent synod of Syro-Malabar Church from 2008 onwards. From 2013 onwards he is serving as the chairman of commission for Pontifical Seminary Aluva, Commission for Public Affairs, Liturgical Research Centre and as the Synodal Representative in the Inter-Church Council for education. He was the president of KCBC and KCC and the Chancellor of Pontifical Institute Aluva (PIA) from 2010 to 2013 and the Vice-President of CBCI from 2014 to 2018.
